The Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Scholar in New Zealand
Studies award is for a senior academic or prominent scholar to pursue
an independent research/lecturing programme in the US.
Eligibility
One award is offered each year.
To be eligible, you must:
- have a PhD and be currently employed at a senior level in a recognised
New Zealand tertiary educational institution or have a reputation as
a prominent independent scholar
- schedule your visit to coincide with the US academic year
- provide a full medical certificate if selected for interview

- are not a New Zealand citizen
- are a New Zealand citizen living in the US
- hold both New Zealand and US citizenship/permanent residency

* Overseas applicants unable to attend an interview in person may be disadvantaged
Preference will be given to candidates who have not had extensive recent experience
in the US.
If you do receive an award, you must complete US immigration documentation from
within New Zealand.
Entitlement
- US$15,000 including travel
- Basic health and accident insurance cover up to a maximum of US$50,000
Award conditions
You must:
- provide a record of scholarly achievement in a field of study that
falls broadly within the rubric of New Zealand Studies
- supply a draft of your proposed programme in the US. The programme
should be more than four weeks duration.
Also included in the programme should be visits to the Centers for New
Zealand Studies at Georgetown University and the University of Texas at
Austin with proposed lecture topics and suggested topics for lectures
at the New Zealand Embassy, preferably on either Waitangi Day or ANZAC
Day.

It was Senator J William Fulbright's mission to build peace through the mutual
understanding of cultures. Fulbright applicants and grantees are expected to
understand and support this mission.
