Sir Wallace Rowling Memorial Award

The Sir Wallace Rowling Memorial Award is to provide a current Fulbright New Zealand graduate student in the field of political science, international relations, journalism or international law the opportunity to undertake an internship in Washington DC during their exchange to the US. One award valued at US$2,500 is granted each year.

Sir Wallace RowlingFulbright New Zealand offers this award in honour and remembrance of Sir Wallace (Bill) Rowling, a 1955 Fulbright New Zealand exchange teacher to the US, Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1974-1975 and Ambassador to the United States of America from 1985-1988. Sir Wallace was also a major driving force behind the building of New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa.

The award is granted to assist with travel and accommodation costs associated with an internship in Washington DC (which are generally unpaid), to be undertaken whilst the grantee is studying in the US on their Fulbright graduate award. The duration of the internship will be a minimum of six weeks, usually undertaken during the Summer break although it can be done at any time of the year with the agreement of the host organisation.
