The Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Programme assists US institutions that otherwise have limited opportunities to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Programme to expand their programmes of academic exchange and internationalize their campus. Visiting international Scholars-in-Residence can help institutions advance their international presence, assist in faculty and curriculum development, and diversify the educational experiences of students, scholars and surrounding communities.

For American academic institutions to host New Zealand academics to teach for one semester or full academic year. Preference is given to institutions that otherwise have limited opportunities to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Programme. Valued at up to US$26,100 plus travel and allowances.
