Expenses

Accommodation

All hotel rooms are pre-paid. You are, however, responsible for any incidental charges to your room.

Spending money

We recommend you bring approximately $750USD spending money for gifts, shopping and other expenses.

Mail

Posting items from New Zealand to the US is expensive. If you plan on posting items home add $200USD to your budget.

Recommended currency

Travellers cheques

Travellers cheques can be changed in major centres and hotels.

Credit cards

Most places take major credit cards especially Mastercard and Visa.

New Zealand cash

We recommend organising some New Zealand cash with your bank before you depart the US. The recommended amount is $300NZD.

There will be bank machines available for you to withdraw some New Zealand currency at the airport when you land in Auckland. Your hotel in Paihia does have a currency exchange but we cannot guarantee the rates.

Bank/debit card

If your bankcard has the "interact" or "plus" symbols on the back, you will be able to get New Zealand cash out of local bank machines. There may be a substantial fee for this service (check with your bank), so take out $100NZ or more at a time.

Allowance

Participants will each receive a per diem (daily allowance) that will be couriered to your home address in the US. You must confirm receipt of the per diem by emailing Ruth Payne.
