Fulbright New Zealand and the James Wallace Arts Trust call for applications to the 2013 Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Award. This award recognises the achievement and potential of an outstanding mid-career or senior New Zealand visual artist by providing a unique opportunity to undertake a ten week residency at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California. One award, valued at US$26,000, is offered each year.
Set in historic military barracks within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area at the entrance to San Francisco Bay, Headlands Center for the Arts (www.headlands.org) provides an unparalleled environment for the creative process and the development of new work and ideas. Through artists’ residencies and public programmes, they offer opportunities for reflection, dialogue and exchange that build understanding and appreciation for the role of art in society.
The recipient of the 2013 Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Award will be honoured along with other winners of Wallace Art Awards in September, and will be eligible to undertake either a Spring residency from March to May 2014, or a Summer residency from June to August 2014, as mutually agreed by the grantee and Headlands Center for the Arts.
Past recipients Richard Maloy (2009), Mark Braunias (2010) and Brydee Rood (2011) will discuss their experiences as artists-in-residence at Headlands Center for the Arts at an upcoming public Fulbright-Wallace Reflections event at the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre in Auckland, on 27 June. The fourth and most recent recipient of the award, Steve Carr, recently returned to Auckland after completing a three month Spring residency at Headlands.
Applications for the 2013 Fulbright-Wallace Arts Trust Award close at 5:00pm, Thursday 1 August 2013
