Fulbright hosts alumni events in New Zealand and America

Alumni Campaign in the US

In May, Fulbright New Zealand launched an alumni campaign in the US. Two events were held. One was hosted by John Wood, the New Zealand Ambassador to the US, hosted an event at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington DC and the other by Rob Taylor, the New Zealand Consul-General hosted an event at the New Zealand Consulate in LA.

Fulbright are seeking donations from alumni of the Fulbright programme living in the US to establish an additional award – the US Fulbright Alumni Award. The award will recognise the top US graduate student each year.

Jane Norton presented with the inaugural Fulbright Alumni Award

Back in New Zealand, events were also held through out the country. At the Grand Hall at Parliament in Wellington, Jane Norton was presented with the inaugural Fulbright Alumni Award. The award is made possible by kind donations from the alumni of the Fulbright programme in New Zealand.

Fulbright Visiting Lecturer in New Zealand Studies at Georgetown University

Events were also hosted by Executive Director Jenny Gill in Auckland and Dunedin. At these events Roger Hall, the 2003 Fulbright Visiting Lecturer in New Zealand Studies at Georgetown University, Washington DC, gave lectures about his experience.

Fulbright New Zealand’s goal is to increase the capital base of the Fulbright New Zealand Trust to NZ$1million over a five-year period. The interest received from this trust will enable Fulbright to establish these new awards.

Orientation

An orientation for the departing 2004 New Zealand Fulbright grantees took place in June. It was also an opportunity for the American grantees in New Zealand to report back on their mid-year project findings.
